They say a watched pot never boils. As a homebrewer, I can tell you this isn’t true. I can confirm that even a very large pot holding over two gallons of water will boil in thirty minutes or less, even if I watch it. Maybe they ought to say “a pot of water will boil eventually, even if you watch it, though it may seem to be taking a long time if you stand there watching it, Mr. Impatient.” That doesn’t really roll off the tongue, does it?
I’ve spent the last several days thinking that Mrs. JoseMonkey is going to go into labor at any moment. I realize that it probably won’t be quite that sudden – statistics show that first-time moms usually don’t give birth that rapidly – but I can’t help but feel as if I need to be on the lookout for contractions, no matter how small.
The reality is that the baby’s going to come whether I’m waiting for it or not, just like the pot of water. But if you truly think that I can make the time go faster simply by “not thinking about it” then clearly you’ve never been in this position. There’s no “not thinking about it.” Period.
I’ll be watching the pot. Stay tuned.
There are only eight days left until our baby’s official due date. It’s getting pretty hard to focus on anything else. Mrs. JoseMonkey had a couple of contractions yesterday, but other than that there hasn’t been any indication that the baby’s at all interested in leaving the womb.
I’ve been able to make some progress on the basement, so hopefully I’ll be able to get my home office done shortly after the baby arrives (and before I have to go back to work).
The nursery is coming along nicely. However, it currently lacks furniture because our endlessly cheerful friends at Oh Baby! haven’t delivered it yet. (They’re really very nice folks; I’m just cranky because I think they screwed up our order, which is why it’s so late.) I’ll post some pictures when the furniture is in.
For the record, I had predicted that the baby would arrive on June 21st. So much for that.
Once the baby does arrive, you can expect a flood of photos. I may even upload some video, since we recently bought a camcorder. (It’s a rule: if you have a baby, you need a camcorder.)
That’s all for now. If there are suddenly any new little people living at our house, I’ll let you know.
